The Effects of Social Support for Mothers of Children with Disabilities on Family Quality of Life: The Mediating Effects of Resilience and Parenting Stress
Yong Hong-Chool

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to investigate the mediating effects of resilience and parenting stress on the effect of social support for mothers of children with disabilities on family quality of life (FQOL). Questionnaire data were collected from 216 mothers of children with disabilities (birth through 12). The findings indicated a significant negative correlation between FQOL and parenting stress, and a significant positive correlation between resilience and social support. Parenting stress was negatively correlated with resilience and social support, and resilience was positively correlated with social support. Additionally, parenting stress had a significant negative impact on FQOL, while social support had a positive effect on FQOL. Resilience was found to have no statistically significant effect on FQOL. Finally, in the relationship between FQOL and social support for mothers of children with disabilities, parenting stress showed significant mediating effects, and resilience and parenting stress showed significant dual mediating effects.
